I study how AI changes both the way we do science and what we discover.
I focus on large language models: how they can speed up science and innovation, from assisting researchers to doing research on their own, and how this changes the science we produce. At the Data Analytics Lab of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, we look at how these models reason, and whether the tests used to evaluate them measure what they claim. Our work on AI safety asks how autonomous agents can conduct research transparently, remain aligned with human and scientific values, and uphold scientific standards.
Before language models, I worked on algorithmic fairness and text-based economic forecasting. I am a board member of the Young Academy of Belgium, hold a Francqui Start-Up Grant, and lead a project in the OpenAI Economic Research Exchange.
